Northeast New Mexico at a Glance
Northeast New Mexico has much to offer travelers, from outdoor activities to restaurants
and accommodations. Skiing, snowboarding and ice fishing can be enjoyed during
the winter months, a contrast to the abundant hiking, biking and more that is
available in the summer. The town of Raton
in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains features a number of historic attractions, such
as the Santa
Fe National Historic Trail, a trade route that was used in the 1800s. The
local Shuler
Theater is a historical attraction in Raton, and today features live performances
by both residents and visiting troupes. Northeast New Mexico boasts a Las
Vegas as well, and though it doesn't enjoy the same reputation as the Nevada
gaming haven, it does offer a wealth of outdoor recreation with two National Forests
located minutes away. Tucumcari
offers a number of interesting attractions, including Mesalands
Community College's Dinosaur Museum and Tucumcari
Mountain Cheese Factory tours.
